I was born and raised in Chengdu, in southwest China..more or less. I was born in a little town to the northwest of Chengdu, which was home to the Dujiangyan irrigation system, a World Heritage site begun over 2,250 years ago.
Currently, I am with the Center for China & Globalization (CCG), a leading non-governmental think tank in China, focusing on two newsletters. The first, 'The East is Read' aims to locate, translate, and contextualize Chinese political, social, and economic discourse, sourcing from domestic Chinese publications. I am convinced that this newsletter plays a crucial role in bridging the language barrier that often leaves these discussions unheard in Western policy circles. The second, 'CCG Update', not only informs and publicises CCG events, but also strives to disseminate diverse perspectives from the CCG platform, whether it adds to or proves detrimental to China's global image.
My experience at the European Chamber of Commerce in China (EUCCC), where I translated, summarised, and analysed policy trends in the fields of energy, standardisation, finance, and real estate helped me get a grasp of the business environment in China. Also, contributing to the chamber's Euroopean Business in China Position Paper 2022/2023, and writing monthly English newsletters for the chamber's member companies led me to steer my passion towards policy-tracking.
My journey led me to Ginger River Review, a newsletter and podcast inspired by Pekingnology (a pioneering initiative of my colleague Zichen Wang) and established by a Xinhua News Agency journalist. It offers in-depth content on Chinese politics, policies, economy, and culture. Alongside my colleagues such as Zichen Wang, we are among the few in China dedicated to crafting English newsletters from within the country.
